In Georgetown, Acton, Erin, Halton Hills, Norval, Ballinafad, Hillsburg, Rockwood, Guelph & all of Ontario, the Family Law Act provides for an equalization of "net family property". This refers to all property acquired while married. It is possible for each spouse to deduct the value of property that they owned separately before marriage. The exception is the Matrimonial Home. This home always forms part of the net family property regardless of the time it was purchased or which spouse purchased it or in who's name it was registered.
A pre-nuptual agreement could deal with this issue.
It is best to discuss individual circumstances with a Family Law Lawyer.
